The New England whaling industry, like so many other economic benefactors before it, vanished due to a lack of thought and modernization.
-Oil= end of whaling -Crude oil replaced sperm oil It was easier to get More functional More profitable industry, as new mechanical inventions made it a dire necessity Boon to diminished whale populations. They could reproduce and become rich again. The oil industry was the final blow that ultimately destroyed New England's whaling. Despite worldwide bans, whaling has continued to today, much to the dismay of many countries. Japan has continued it's whale fishery in the Southern Ocean, near Antarctica. Their ships are very modernized; they are equipped with radar looking for whales, extremely powerful harpoons, and a very organized fleet. Once the Japanese fleet finishes whaling, there will be no other large scale whaling industries in the world. |
